the thing that i don't understand about jojos is how parts 1-6 are generally incoherent and action based while part7 is one of the greatest character driven manga of all time

Blah blah blah never have i been so offended by something i entirely agree with there i said it are you happy Okay for the most part i agree with everything but i think that 58:43 is a pretty dishonest argument. One guy throwing a grenade and killing 20 people is a tragedy, but even as fewer as 10 students being blackmailed and hypnotizing into killing each other is a statisticslly lower count but a much larger story, made all the more impactful by japan not seeing nearly as many in-school homicides as the US.

As a big fan of the original continuity: God you are so big-brained. Like. I've been trying so hard to explain my issues with the series outside of "The brainwashing cheapened everything about the original games" and "Why does this series only get me invested in a character right before they die? This is bad writing when it happens more than once or twice" but you managed to put a lot of it to words. There's a lot I disagree with, some of it being because I initially engaged with the series via a fan-translation which got across certain aspects more faithfully to the intent, but there's a lot MORE I agree with. I'm actually a big fan of anime, and I have a *lot* of tolerance for Anime Bullshit. The series in general is also right up my alley because I love morbidity and cartoon gore (I'm really, REALLY weak wrt realistic gore though, to the point I start crying and leave the room) and I just love the *fun* anime bullshit. (Read as: the stuff that *isn't* sexualising the characters.) And yet I am one of those fans who, for all the love I have for the series, *hates* it so much because of all the failed potential. One thing I do enjoy is that the SDR2 cast do live - it was in fact foreshadowed in the end of the gameI actually feel their survival *adds* to things, that their survival aids the 'hope' theme, because it was an act of trying to make the world a better place, against the desires of those who wanted them to die for their crimes instead of being rehabilitated, that gave them the second chance. Their survival doesn't cheapen the game imo... What cheapens the game is how they seem ultimately unaffected by basically anything that happened in the game. I hate how they all look so healthy and totally not like they'd spent most of the last couple of years as Superbosses roaming the deadlands of the world, like nothing that happened between the first game and their showing back up happened. I hate how none of them seems incredibly traumatised. I hate how they're buddy-buddy in that "I have never experienced anything awful in my life" way. I hate how they look and act like there was never an apocalypse, let alone how they act like they never had any part in it, outside of being all "hey bestie come to the island with us so we can live apart from the terror we helped cause". The fact that they are so *unbothered* by everything, that they are not in any way devoted to undoing as much of the harms they did as possible, content to just live life on an island away from everything awful... It cheapens everything, *including* the fact that they're alive - which would be perfectly in line with the changing themes had their continued existence been portrayed in any meaningful way.

I like Danganronpa and still subbed for the thorough video and fair analysis

please watch assassination classroom or full metal alchemist brotherhood or erased I think that anime varrys in quality and enjoyment a ton but these 3 are universally good imo I've never shown them to anyone who didn't like them by the end

As someone who played UDG when it was relevant and setting up, I feel like the IMMEDIATE assumption of the killer/culprit of 3's game to be Towa. Like, the whole game set her up for greater ambitions. However, in true Danganronpa fashion, everything must tie to Junko, so they mess up the canonical timeline of the prequel book DR0, realize they don't have time to do anything interesting with the Remnants, make Mitarai as a catchall retcon, and now that he exists, Towa has no purpose in the plot. So.... make her an epic joke space neet.

It kinda sounds to me like you missed the point on Komaeda, which was to be a red herring makoto. You see him and (at least for me) think, "oh this is makoto" especially when you see Byakuya right after so youre like "ah why the hell are they here too" and then Nagito ends up being this gross perversion of what Makoto represented.

I think there are plenty of reasons to hate danganronpa that arent in Part 1. Part 1 feels like youre offloading all your nitpicks into one area, but honestly it just makes me not want to finish the video. I just think theres a lot of unnecessary bad faith criticism and the video would be better off had it not been included at all

Don't really agree with the "no consequence in trials" argument. Cause how the hell would the game actually play if it was possible to fail? This game is extremely long, being forced back into the investigation because you failed some sort of clue, or restart the entire trial because you got something wrong - no thank you. It would be tedious. The point of these games is to showcase the story, such ridiculous gameplay features wouldn't blend well

I love me some Jojo but yeah, Stardust Crusaders is kinda just Enemy Stand user of the week until we reach DIO and a few character threads get resolution along the way. At 48 episodes it basically gives the same experience as a Super Sentai series with fewer giant robots but just as much posing for the camera. However I need to counter one statement. Joseph Joestar does not have an Oedipus Complex. In the screenshot shown he doesn't realize Lisa Lisa is his mother, as far as he knows she's just his hot teacher. It's the same joke as "Haha Luke and Leia kissed but they were actually siblings" and the only people who say those two wanna do the Alabama Square Dance are fanfic writers. And as others have stated, the majority of weirdness comes as a result of the official translations. "Ultimate" is a bad substitute for "Super High School Level," Moral Compass is a bizarre translation of "Discipline Committee Member" etc etc

holy shit i haven't even heard all the takes but "the way v3 ended made the entire series hard to immediately recommend" is the realest shit i've ever heard. i though thh was a neat start, i LOVED goodbye despair, but the more i played v3 the harder it got to keep going. frankly i didn't even finish the game, i just looked up the end sequence cause it wasn't worth it anymore lmao. super jazzed to hear someone else's sort-of "falling out of love" perspective on the series!

I get that v3's ending has many interpretations, but i think there's a "most valid" one Dg1, 2 and 3 are fiction both for us and for the v3 universe. The v3 audience its not us, the dg team wanted to make a funny joke that they were so sucessful they made the hunger games real. We are made empathize with the despair the characters feel even if they have no relation to us. I really liked this ending, its kind of perfect but i get why is hated or disliked

The thing about V3 is that Kodaka basically made it to shut up the fandom because EVERYONE was whining about getting another danganronpa game and he wanted to make it meta and ruin it for everyone so they would stop asking for more games, since he was trying to seperate himself from the danganronpa series and make a name for himself outside of it. At least this is what I heard from people in the fandom so take that with a grain of salt.

Tbh i also dislike anime i dont watch it and its not for me but ive always liked the first two danganronpa games alot. I found them funny and characters so likeable and i love the gameplay. I think the overarching story is pretty silly and i could let it slide for the first one bc its mostly grounded but the second one really jumped the shark but the characters and gameplay were still likable enough to let is slide yk? Like i was disappointed that Junko was still the big bad but whatever. But i love monokuma he is just do devilishly fun and cute also the fking music goes so hard in the first two games 😭The first game is overall my favorite though i do feel like the trial gameplay was better and more challenging in the second one especially loved that one escape room mini game where i did it without looking anything up and it was so satisfying. I definitely agree the stakes are low for failing a trial but i dont care abt that personally. The third game was just a disappointment and the characters were just not as interesting or compelling i couldn’t even get past the first chapter i just stopped caring. I appreciate ur compliments and criticisms! Really interesting and i honestly agree. Especially ugh the third game just bummed me out🙄 but i still like replaying the first two and befriending other ppl or doing the trials on harder difficulty.

the only way i can see V3 working with the original 2 games is through the concept of fictionalization, Specifically that part of their plan to return the world to normal and undo the apocalypse Junko created was to make the entire event "fictional" in the sense of it did happen but No one Thinks it did and is just a story.

Have you heard of Aviary Attorney? It's like Ace Attorney but you can lose a trial and the game just carries on with the story changing to adapt. It's on Steam. Seems like something you'd enjoy after hearing you didn't like the low stakes.

Ah it seems Dangonronpa has fallen into the Arthur Conan Doyle trap. But in this case it's endless. Chunsoft can't just kill their Sherlock because Dangonronpa is based on the killings. It's part of the formula.

(Spoilers, duh:) Weirdly enough, I (unlike a majority) understood the intent of v3's conclusion, back when I saw content for it the first time, despite not knowing nearly as much about narrative & media: that it was a show *in universe,* and that they're going to move foward from the "lie" they were stuck in. Not defending spike chunsoft for coveying this poorly, but just a bit weird to think about on my end

Yea, ultimately, this would have been inconsequential, since they ciuld have made another attempt (in theory), but my point here is that Kaede's kill-correction happened because A) the shot-put had barely missed Kaede, and B) because of Tsmugi's desire for the show to go on (As if DR was a fucked up version of Doctor Who), which creates characterization beyond Junko's "Dis bear's Dispair 🤪🤪🤪"

I’m glad I played Danganronpa when I was 17, I feel like I’ve grown up and watched/played better things. Still nostalgic for it, though idk most of Danganronpa is pretty dumb.

Im not going to lie i was shocked by kaede's death and thought it was brilliant. Also shuiichi is a pretty nice down to earth protag. I thought he was a great choice as her replacement ; ). P.S. You missed the Danganronpa game with a female protagonist like a game ago. Most people dont bother to play it, but i kinda liked its Arcade-y Feel. It is pretty unnecessary though pftttt

i didnt even start the video yet but to me danganronpa is one of those series that isnt actually that good, but because of nostalgia, you look back at it fondly. danganronpa was basically my life back in middle school okay after watching the video i think you should definitely play ultra despair girls because it is simultaneously the best and worst game in the series

Yk what? Danganronpa is best in written novel form like in Danganronpa zero (junko is a much more compelling villian here.) and Danganronpa kirigiri. Its dog water in anime form. And somewhat alright in visual novel form (the killing game ), it's biggest flaw is the repetitiveness and useless fillar dialogue it has, so i think if it was just a novel alot of those issues would've been fixed.

Opinion, liked the first video, this one, yeahhhh, this one, youre reaching, its like trying to find mistakes in a 2nd dish because you didnt like the first dish. Everyone was upset during Kaede's trial but this video feels like you summed everything very hastily, in my perspective, you just got tired after the firsr chapter, the game has more to offer than how you described it, you talk as if these characters were made wacky and the whole game made zero sense when it does, the game is honestly more down to earth than any of the previous installments. Chapter 1, Kaede, the fake protagonist, is the only protagonist in every game that spoke up and actually becoming the leader for the group but she fails trying to do so, you mention that Kaede's reason and motive wasnt there but in my opinion, it was there from the beginning, she trusts the people shes with, she truly believes that the characters there could change for the better and that they would all live in *harmony* (pun intended) and honestly, its even more heartbreaking knowing that V3 has the lowest amount of survivors compared to all the previous installments and thats how you make a good narrative, make you believe, break that belief and find new ways to believe because even though Kaede's wish of them all leaving together was never fulfilled, all the survivors past chapter t have a special and friendship that no other game in the series has. Chapter 2, this chapter connects the least with the characters because this chapter honestly just focuses on 3 characters but its still nonetheless a great storyline. Ryoma has no reason to live and Kirumi had too many reasons to live and it impacted Shuichi a lot when Kirumi insults him for not being able to save anyone, Shuichi doesnt back down and Kirumi even tries till the very end to escape her fate even to go as far as trying to manipulate the others to protect her like as they did with Kaede. Chapter 3, Tenko and Angie were not the best people but to Himiko, they were her best friends and both of them being taken away from her and her being blamed for their deaths by some of the characters, Himiko then continues to lives on in the name of Angie and Tenko, thanking them for how much theyve helped her even if their methods werent the best (Angie brainwashing Himiko lol) and oh, Kiyo was there. Chapter 4, Miu, an inventor who just wants to escape to the outside world bc she thinks her inventions are too important and Gonta who knew the truth, Kockroach and Kaito, one who fights using facts and one who fights using emotions. Chapter 5, Maki, a girl who fought to kill, for the first time (actually second but her free times just not do her justice) fights to protect someone, Kaito who doesnt want anyone else to get hurt and Kokichi, a guy who breathes as he lies even until his death, no one knows the truth. It makes me kinda somewhat upset knowing ALL the stories actually develops every single character (except Kiyo, he was just there for an incest plot) and the fact that you basically glossed over it and compared them to D1 and D2 when clearly V3 is its own game just doesnt sit right with me, I get V3's stories are really heavy like a lot to unpack but you fail to mention a single one just baffles me, in all honesty, V3's story is the most interesting part of the plot but the fact youre most focused on the ending (even getting the message of the ending wrong) just kinda irritated me in the sense that V3 offers more than every single past Danagnronpa game because they actually focus on the story and chatacters more than just expanding the Danagnronpa universe more like thats why the D3 anime is so bad, they only focused on the plot and leaving 0 screentime for any of the characters to do anything aside from the important ones. Edit: My comment is poorly written but still, how can you not like the characters stories just bc you dont like the ending, it just doesnt make sense to brush off the characters just bc you didnt understand the ending.
